Life Story

The second of Louis and Lena Knittel's children, Margaret was born on April 12, 1887. She had an older sister Susan and younger siblings George, Julia, Anna and John.

Margaret lived with her parents in Brooklyn and began work as a factory hand sometime between 1900 and 1905. By 1910 she was involved in glass blowing at a thermometer factory and was still working in this occupation in 1915. No further records could be found after the 1915 census; she either died or married, but the records must have been lost. A photograph taken on a rooftop on her cousin Lyle's 21st birthday in September 1914 shows a few Knittel family members including an image of Margaret. It is also possible that Margaret is one of the women in the back row of a family photograph taken around 1910 or 1911 in the living room of Susan's home.
