Life Story The youngest of Louis Knittel
and Lena Stern's six children, John was born October 16, 1895 in Brooklyn,
New York. John attended school up until eighth grade/age 14 when he became
an apprentice for a lithographer in 1910. By 1915 he was a plumber's helper,
an occupation he pursued after serving five months as a seaman 2nd class
between July 23 to November 11, 1918. He was officially released from
duty on April 30, 1919. John never married and presumably had no children. He lived with his parents and then with his mother after his father died. In 1940 he worked as a plumber for 35 weeks a year and earning $1200. He lived with his mother in a rented house at 767 Madison Street in Brooklyn, the same house where he and his mother lived in 1935. |
