Life Story

Edward William was the older of Rosa Manns and Edward Thomas Tull's two surviving children. He was born on November 2, 1888 and died in March 1981 according to the US Death Index. Census records indicate that he only completed school through grade 7. In 1920, an Edward Tull born circa 1899 was living on 42nd Street in Philadelphia and was married to an Elvira Longberg, age 17, a mother in law, Anna Longberg, age 36, and a sister in law Alberta, age 16. Also living with them was a daughter, Evelyn Tull, age 1 month. However by the 1930 census, he is listed as head of house with a wife named May with whom he had been married for five years. He is also listed with "Mae Hannah" in the 1940 census. No census or death records could be found for Anna, Elvira, Alberta or Evelyn in 1930 or 1940. Edward's first wife and daughter either died, or he and his first wife divorced, and she remarried. However, no marriage records for either marriage could be found. One listing in the 1950 city directory showed him living at 1537 S. Vodges Street in Philadelphia.

Edward became a "driver" for Express in 1920, a clerk in 1930 and a cab driver by 1940 who earned $1,000 per year. A WWI draft record dated September 12, 1918 indicated that Edward was a clerk for Neall & Carpenter located on Race Street in Philadelphia. He was described as short, slender and with blue eyes and brown hair. The only known photograph we have of Edward is of him as a baby.
