Life Story

Edward Thomas Tull, husband of Rosa "Rose" Mary Manns, was the youngest of seven children born to William and Nancy Tull. He was born in Stockton, Maryland on May 7th, either in 1865 (death certificate) or 1867 (census records). According to the 1880 census, Edward's father was a farmer; one brother was a laborer and another one an "assistant." Before 1900, he and at least one brother, Charles, moved from the Eastern Shore of Maryland to Philadelphia where they went into business together. Edward married Rosa Manns on September 4, 1885 when he was 28 to 30, and she was 20.

According to census records, Edward and his brother Charles were commercial merchants in the produce business. He and Rosa lived in West Philadelphia and had five children, but only two, Edward William and Howard K, survived to adulthood. Two babies died the day they were born and their only daughter died of bronchial pneumonia at the age of 2 1/2.

Edward's wife died May 4, 1940. He died four years later, April 2, 1944 of prostate cancer at the age of 76 to 78, just one month shy of his next birthday. He had been in the hospital for two months prior to his death. He is buried at Arlington Cemetery, Delaware County, just west of Philadelphia.
