Life Story

The next to last child, Amelia was born February 12, 1871 in Utica, New York. Like her sisters Josephine and Bertha, Amelia never married. She lived with her parents until they died, and then continued to live with Josephine in their parent's home for at least a few years after their deaths in 1907 and 1908. By 1916 she and Josephine moved to Morris Street, not far from their home on Wharton.

Amelia and her sister Josephine followed their father's occupation and had a dressmaking business called A&J Dressmakers. They worked out of their home and earned enough to support themselves. The 1940 census shows Amelia and Josephine living in a house on Catherine Street in Philadelphia. A search for a death certificate through Social Security index indicates that Amelia died August 5, 1943 from stomach cancer which had metastasized to the liver. She was buried on August 7th at Holy Cross Cemetery along with her parents and her sister Bertha.
